About The Cause

SOS Has been started to help raise money to aid in the repairs of some of the show-owned items on the grounds.  WMSTR is a non-profit organization that works closely with the Clay County Historical Society, and is recognized by the Minnesota Historical Society.  All proceed generated go towards the betterment of the show.  None of the members receive compensation for their contribution or time donated to the show.

It all started in 1940 with a little idea sparked from the soul of some local Thresherman over supper. The Nelson boys fired up the old Garr-Scott engine to thresh with steam again for old time sake with family & friends. The event continued once a year until 1954, when Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion met formally for the first time and invited the public. Today the show has grown to include hundreds of demonstrations and exhibits spread over 210 beautiful acres. The show attracts thousands of spectators and volunteers every Labor Day weekend.

We feature live exhibits of steam engines, gas engines, horsepower and pioneer farming, foods, ladies activities and a large construction area.  Also, we have two fully operational steam locomotives that provide rides around the showgrounds for our spectators.
